Studio Info
With over 30 years of teaching private piano lessons, our in-person lessons will be positive, encouraging, productive and imaginative! My teaching approach is traditional as I am classically trained. Once the student is able to read music, I will find out what they love ❤️. They will practice what they love automatically. This includes:
- Classical
- Jazz
- Blues
- Broadway
- New Age
- Composition
- and Singing while you play.
We have three recitals where they will be able to showcase what they have learned. There is no better time to start your first lesson in the comfort of your own home. They love ❤️ recitals!
Online Piano Lessons
Lessons are also available online via Zoom or FaceTime in the comfort of your own home. Minimal requirements include
- A piano or keyboard
- A computer, laptop, or smartphone
- Good speakers or headset
- and a reliable, high-speed Internet connection.
Teaching Method
My comprehensive approach uses multi-key learning. The student will learn basic rhythm patterns, intervals, chords , scales, and essential signs and terms.
The core books are
- Piano
- Technic
- Performance
- Scales
- and Theory
Supplemental books include Classical , Jazz,, Blues, New Age and Top Hits. In essence you/your child will learn how to read music through this process. Music Composition will come as the student reaches the Intermediate Level .
Technic contains a variety of exercises AT ALL LEVELS to develop hand and finger coordination and to develop ease, control and facility at the keyboard. The student should allow time each day for technic practice. These exercises may be played as warm-ups before beginning to practice pieces..
Performance sets aside imaginative and motivating solos for study as well as performance in piano recitals. (See RECITALS)
Scales are part of the mechanics behind learning to read music (All Instruments). In Level 2 we will START learning our scales in all keys, both major and minor, first in one octave, then in two octaves. Each song we learn is in a Key Signature (even at the beginning). Learning are scales means will mean a greater understanding of each piece.
Theory is the study of the practices and possibilities of music. First are the rudiments that are needed to understand notations (key signatures, time signatures, and rhythmic notation). etc. As we progress through the levels we will be ready for Music Composition (to compose and write our compositions down on music manuscript paper or Apps such as Maestro).
Recitals & Performances
We have three recitals: HALLOWEEN, HOLIDAY, & SPRING. Each student will select two songs. One of them should be classical at their level as this was really the type of music most written for the piano. The other can be a Theme song from their favorite movie, etc. There will usually be a student who sings while they play and/or a student who will share their own musical compositions. (These recitals always always inspire the student to practice more as they look forward to learning something that someone has played.)

About Diane
Bringing the gift of music into my students life is my goal! Teaching piano and hearing my students say, “I love this song!”, “Can I play this for the next recital?”, “Can I play you a song I composed?”, “Can we do writing?”, “You’re the best piano teacher ever!” ………. just makes my day. I look forward to hearing from you.
